Where to go to celebrate your Great Scottish Run achievement

Brooks Ghost Banners

If you’re a Great Scottish Run veteran, congratulations – that finish line feeling isn’t far off, and it never gets old. And if you’re a first timer – well, you’ve got so much to look forward to.

But whether you’re a newbie or a Great Scottish Run devotee, one thing’s for certain – after you’ve collected your medal, finisher t-shirt and goody bag, you’re going to want to celebrate your incredible achievement.

Thankfully, we’ve made things easy by providing a top-notch after-party. The Après Zone can be found just past the finish line, and is packed with live music, food and drink options and plenty of places to kick back, relax and rest tired legs. Make sure to check it out and soak up the festival-feel – you’ve definitely earned it.

But where to head afterwards? Well, the good news is that café and bar culture is alive and well in Glasgow, with outlets and eateries catering for all tastes and budgets. And a second bit of good news: you’ll be well-served without having to walk very far – chances are, after a half marathon or 10k, you’ll be wanting to stay local!

Here’s our top five recommendations of places to go in a 15-minute radius of Glasgow Green:

  • The Winged Ox bar & kitchen at St Luke’s is just 4 minutes’ walk from Glasgow Green in Calton and serves laid-back pub grub and drinks – perfect for a post-run refuel. Don’t let its casual feel fool you, though – it’s been voted Scottish Pub of the Year *and* music-led venue of the year.
  • The Barras Market is also a short walk away, and a great place to grab a bite to eat or a drink while browsing the stalls of antiques and knick knacks. A true Glasgow institution, you’re bound to find some characters – and maybe an unexpected bargain.
  • Got a hankering for Scottish Italian food? Try Garlic and Thyme – a deli serving substantial sandwiches, magnificent mains, delicious dolci and more. Bright, welcoming – and did we mention the sandwiches?
  • Sometimes only fish and chips will do. Guido’s Coronation Restaurant is another Glasgow institution – a family-run chippie since 1939 with an instagram-worthy shopfront. You’ll struggle to find a more authentic setting.
  • Trendy Scran serves up elevated snacks and sides – think brekkie rolls, fries, toasties and soup. Hurry, though – they’re racking up awards left, right and centre and proving popular with the locals!

Hold on, Glasgow – we’re coming for you!
