If you’re a veteran of the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run, you probably know a little about what’s coming your way. But if it’s been a few years – or if it’s your first time – we’re here to tell you what to expect.
And spoiler alert – it’s something pretty special. Let’s go!
Being part of something BIG
Over 14,000 runners take part in the Great Birmingham Run every year, making it the Midlands’ biggest (and best?) running event. Get ready to feel iconic.
Start line hype
Where else can you see a man dressed as a shark, Kermit the Frog and Superwoman doing stretches? The start line of the Great Birmingahm Run is packed with thousands of runners all with one shared goal: to put one foot in front of another and achieve something incredible. If you could bottle and sell the buzz, you’d be a billionaire.
Local heroes
Brummie runners have raised more than £10 million for good causes since 2017, supporting national names like Cancer Research UK and British Heart Foundation to local charities such as Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Heartlands Hospital. Look out for colourful charity vests and noisy cheering stations.
Our most diverse run
There’s something so joyous about people from all backgrounds and walks of life coming together to celebrate the power of running. And as one of the most diverse cities in the UK, Birmingham really brings the party.
Sightseeing goals
Once you’ve crossed the start line, the Great Birmingham Run route takes you through some of the city’s most iconic streets and landmarks. 10k runners, keep your eyes peeled for the historic Jewellery Quarter and St Paul’s Square; half marathon runners, get ready to soak up the calm and beauty of Cannon Hill Park. It really is the best way to see Birmingham. (Psst: get route-ready with our trusty guide)
Epic entertainment
Expect DJs, local bands, crowd-pleasing tunes and much, much more. We love to mix it up a bit, so check the website for the latest list of live entertainment we’ve got in store to keep those legs pumping.
Superb supporters
Over 25,000 spectators line the route at the Great Birmingham Run, and Brummies really know how to share the love. Save some energy for waving, high-fiving and perhaps even a bit of dancing as you power your way around the route.
Brummie Bling
Did someone say finisher goodies? As you cross the finish line, you’ll receive your exclusive finisher t-shirt and medal. The design is different every year, but it’s always inspired by Birmingham’s landmarks, spirit and passion. Think of it as your very own bit of Brummie bling.
A buzz like no other
Over 98% of runners would recommend the Great Birmingham Run to a friend, so don’t blame us if you’re signing up for next year’s before you’ve even found the Après Run Zone. We can’t be held responsible for any decisions made while experiencing a runner’s high 😉
An unforgettable after-party
We’ve already mentioned the Après Run Zone where you’ll find entertainment, food and drink stalls and more. But Birmingham is the perfect place to keep the celebrations going, so head out into the city and explore. Need some suggestions? We’ve got you covered.
