What makes the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run the greatest running event in all of Caledonia? Read on for 10 reasons why you can’t afford to miss the friendliest – and most fun – run north of the border.
Two distances to choose from – and lots for the little ones, too. The Great Scottish Run allows you to choose your challenge, with a 10k or half marathon distance on offer. And if you’re raising the next generation of runners, there’s a Toddler Dash (under 3s), Mini run (3-8 year olds) and a Junior event (9-15 year olds) to take part in at the AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run on Saturday.
You’ll be in great company. Every year, 30,000 lads and lassies take to the streets of Glasgow for the Great Scottish Run, making for a phenomenal mass-participation running experience. Expect runners of all ages, backgrounds and abilities – from Sunday strollers to seasoned pros – all with one goal in common: to be their greatest. It’s quite a sight to behold.
See Glasgow’s best side. From stunning architecture to green spaces, the Great Scottish run route is seriously bonny. And with lots of landmarks to spot – including the Squinty Bridge, Nelson’s Monument, plus numerous sightings of the River Clyde – there’s plenty to keep you engaged and motivated. Study the route here.
Green spaces. Despite its city-centre start and finish (hello, super-convenient and inclusive running!), Glasgow is one of our greenest runs. Both the 10k and the half marathon finishes on Glasgow Green, but if you opt for 13.1 miles you’ll also take a tour through Bellahouston and Pollok Country Park. Stunning running, even if we do say so ourselves.
The friendliest supporters. Glasgow is known as the UK’s friendliest city, and for good reason. On race day, supporters turn out in their thousands, bringing Jelly Babies, placards and plenty of good vibes. Worried you might need a motivation boost part-way round? Glasgow always delivers.
Energising entertainment. If you’ve taken part in a Great Run before, you’ll know we bring some serious energy. And with live warm up artists, on-course bands, DJs and pacers running to the beat of their very own sound system, The Great Scottish Run is a real celebration from start to finish. On your marks, get set, party!
Glasgow-exclusive goodies. Because everyone loves a goody bag, right? And Great Run goody bags are officially the best, with an exclusive medal and finisher t-shirt inspired by Glasgow’s people, history and spirit. Wear them with pride.
Celeb spotting. From running legends like Eilish McColgan and Callum Hawkins to DJs and telly stars, you never know who you might spot pounding the pavement – so keep your eyes peeled!
That finish line feeling. The Great Scottish Run boasts a truly epic home stretch: through the McLennan Arch, past the Nelson Monument and onto Glasgow Green. If you’re a proud Glaswegian, we have a friendly warning: there might be tears.
An incredible afterparty. In the Après Run Zone, you’ll find everything you need to celebrate your incredible achievement, including food, drink and live entertainment. Want to head on elsewhere? We’ve got some top recommendations for places to head within 15 minutes of the finish line – check them out here.
