This Girl Can At The Morrisons Great North 5K
You've seen the advert, danced in your living room to the song and enjoyed the memes. Now the women of the North East are being encouraged to get their trainers on and show that Geordie girls can at the 2015 Morrisons Great North 5k on Saturday 12th September.
The organisers of the event have teamed up with This Girl Can: Running to invite all women who have been inspired by this incredible campaign to take part in the popular 5k event, which takes place the day before the iconic Morrisons Great North Run on the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside.
They're creating a special start just for the girls, and if you sign up to run in the This Girl Can wave, you'll get a This Girl Can race number, temporary tattoo and sweatband.
Jennie Price, Sport England's Chief Executive, said: “Fear of judgement about how good we are or how we look when exercising is stopping many of us from getting active. But as thousands of women are already proving, it really doesn't have to.
“This Girl Can: Running is a celebration of women up and down the country who are running, jogging or walking their way to a more active lifestyle. We're really pleased to be teaming up with Great Run to offer women a taste of the This Girl Can attitude at such a brilliant event.”
Philippa Morrow of The Great Run Company added: “If you're new to running or keen to give it a go, we'd love to see you at this year's Morrisons Great North 5K in the This Girl Can wave.
“It's the perfect opportunity to join like-minded women in a fun event that will give you a great reason to keep on running, jogging or walking this autumn.”
