Strong Foundations – Run 10k for the Newcastle United Foundation
This year’s AJ Bell Great North 10k on Sunday 2 July promises to be a special affair, with a brand-new city centre route passing iconic Newcastle landmarks, including running twice over the Tyne Bridge. Another exciting addition this year is a partnership with the Newcastle United Foundation, giving participants the chance to support the great work the Foundation does in the city & beyond.
How does the partnership work?
Runners have the option to become a local hero and run for the Foundation, raising money for sports and wellbeing programmes across the North East. Runners who choose to support this cause will be part of the new black-and-white wave and will receive special black-and-white run numbers, creating what promises to be a special sight for fellow runners and spectators alike.
Who are the Newcastle United Foundation?
The Newcastle United Foundation is the official charity partner of Newcastle United, aiming to take the club into the community, focusing on improving the lives of thousands of local people, across all age groups. They are committed to helping the people of the North East feel healthier and happier, encouraging them to get active through sport.
Through community, education, health and wellbeing and sports programmes delivered across Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside and Gateshead, the Foundation supported over 69,000 people last year. Community is at the heart of everything they do, with free physical activity, respite support for chronically ill children and teenagers, wellness workshops and Mental Health First Aid training, are just some of the fantastic causes that the foundation provides.
Running for the cause
One runner who will be a part of the special Newcastle United Foundation wave is Jacqueline Critchley, a Senior Project Coordinator in the Foundation’s Sport and Wellbeing team. After taking on the Great North Run last year for the foundation, Jacqueline will be heading to the iconic start line again for this year’s 10k, aiming to raise money for the Foundation, as well as boosting her mental well-being following a diagnosis of anxiety last year. You can read more about her story here.
