On Your Marks, Get Set, Gairdoch United 2014s, Go!
They’re already united on the football pitch, and on Saturday 30 September, Joey aged 9 and his teammates at the mighty Gairdoch United Football Club, will be swapping their football boots for their running trainers when they take part in the AJ Bell Junior Run in Glasgow.
Donning their famous black and gold Gairdoch United Football tops, the boys will be running the Junior run, a 2.5km charged super sprint, for the first time to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice.
They’re also hoping to raise money for the running of their football club, allowing them to buy football equipment and the chance to participate in a pre-season training tournament in Europe next year. They’ve set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £2000 via their go fund me page, and with so much excitement for the day, they’re confident they’ll smash their target.
The best bit about the day for Joey will be, “running with my teammates and getting a winners medal and goodie bag”. Team coach and Dad David will also be getting involved, running the Glasgow half marathon on the Sunday.
With their Gairdoch supporters wearing black and gold and banners cheering them on, they won’t be hard to miss as they sprint by!
The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run is an incredible weekend of running that includes a 10k & half marathon on Sunday and Junior & Mini event on Saturday.
