Christmas Entries Open Soon Sitewide

Nine nurses from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QE) in Birmingham are gearing up to run the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia.

The team all work on blood cancer ward 625 at the hospital and administer some of the treatments made possible by funds raised for the charity. They are set to join another strong Team Cure Leukaemia for the 13.1 mile half marathon on Sunday October 18th for an event that has raised over £200,000 for the charity in the last two years.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and Kate Rogers, Laura Conway, Jennifer Slater, Rebecca Walker, Kiran Ali, Rachael Cooke, Jaclyn Smith, Mark Everitt and Melissa Magson are aiming to raise as much money as possible to benefit the patients they treat every day.

Kate Rogers, ward 625 sister said, “we're all really excited to be taking part in the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run! We'll run as a team and get through the 13.1mile course knowing that we will be helping the patients we treat every day. The work Cure Leukaemia support makes such a difference to the lives of blood cancer patients in our region and we are determined to raise as many funds as possible to save more lives. We'd urge people to give what they can as any donation big or small can do so much.”

James McLaughlin, Cure Leukaemia's Chief Executive said, “it is fantastic to have such a strong team from the QE representing the charity in the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run. Our purpose as a charity is to help support and fund specialist research nurses who can then administer pioneering treatments to patients battling this terrible disease, so to have a team of ten running this October will be a very proud moment for everyone associated with Cure Leukaemia. Please get behind these wonderful people and help raise vital funds that will help save lives.”
