Irish Mixed Relay Team Announced
Ireland will once again be sending a mixed relay team for the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh XCountry in Holyrood Park on January 13.
Eoin Everard (Kilkenny City Harriers), Kieran Kelly (Raheny Shamrock), Kerry O'Flaherty (Newcastle) and Laura Crowe (An Riocht) will compete in the innovative International Mixed Relay event which will see national teams of four (two men and two women) compete in a 4x1k challenge for the Stewart Cup. Richard Rodgers will act as team manager.
The Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh XCountry has been a happy hunting ground post European Cross Country Championships and there will hopefully be other Irish athletes gaining selection for Europe in the other four races: the junior men's 6km, the junior women's 4km, senior men's 8km and senior women's 6km. These events are the match-up for the annual Team GB & NI versus Europe versus USA where Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole) has competed with distinction.
The Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh XCountry is televised live on BBC One and is part of a New Year festival for runners of all abilities held in Holyrood Park, next to the Scottish Parliament.
The popular Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Winter Run, held on a scenic 5km course that loops around Arthur's Seat, provides the public with a perfect opportunity to blow off the New Year cobwebs before watching the world's best test themselves in the international cross country races.
