Heroic 7-Year-Old Bone Marrow Donor Freya Takes on the Mini Event Challenge
The theme of this year’s AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great North Run is ‘Finding Your Superpower,’ and we’re celebrating some of the incredible young runners who embody this spirit.
These young athletes are not just participating in a race; they are discovering their inner strengths, pushing their limits, and showcasing their unique abilities.
The kids get their own chance to shine on ‘Super Saturday’ – a chance for them to experience a big event atmosphere, which is what our event is all about!
7-Year-Old Little Hero Freya Frost Takes on Mini Great North Run to Support Brother’s Life-Saving Journey
Seven-year-old Freya Frost, who bravely donated bone marrow to her baby brother Jakob earlier this year at the RVI, is set to take on a new challenge. This year, Freya will be participating in the Mini event, running on her own but with the support of an adult.
This will be Freya’s first time participating in the event. Inspired by her family’s involvement in previous runs, and raising money for charity, Freya decided to follow in their footsteps. Her mother ran the Great North Run last year for Anthony Nolan, and her father participated the year before for Children Cancer North.
Freya is running to raise funds for the Rainbow Trust, a charity that provided immense support to her family during Jakob’s bone marrow transplant and recovery. The charity reached out to Freya, asking if she would like to run to help raise money for them, and she eagerly accepted.
Freya’s fundraising goal is to give back to the Rainbow Trust, which played a crucial role in supporting her family during a challenging time.
This year’s AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great North Run is SOLD OUT and set to be the biggest ever, with over 10,500 children ready to take part. If you want to be part of the excitement next year, sign up here to be notified when 2025 entries open.
