The AJ Bell Great North Run is the world’s biggest and best half marathon, with 60,000 runners taking on the route from Newcastle to South Shields each year. It’s famous for its inclusive atmosphere, unbeatable route-side entertainment and warm Geordie welcome, not to mention the millions of pounds raised each year for worthy causes. Great North Run magic can be hard to understand – until you’ve experienced it for yourself.
Great North Run entries are open to runners aged 17+ on the day of the event.

You can enter the January Ballot, opening in early January 2025, or purchase a charity entry. Sign up for our 2025 reminder below and we’ll let you know when the January Ballot opens and charity places are available.

Information for Great North Run Members
If you’re a Great North Run member, you don’t need to enter the Ballot. AJ Bell Great North Run Members skip the ballot and guarantee a place on the start line of the Great North Run for 3 years. Anyone with a priority entry will be sent an email shortly with instructions on how to secure their priority place in the 2025 AJ Bell Great North Run. The deadline to register and pay for the priority entry is 2pm on Monday 9 December 2024.

What You Get
We have made the decision to introduce optional finisher tees to our Great Run events. You can choose to forgo a finisher tee shirt at the point of entry, and in lieu of this we will make a donation to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal. We will donate a portion of the fulfilment costs for each runner who chooses this option to the fund and commit that this donation to be approx. £20,000.
