Set to be the biggest run weekend ever, inspiring runners with a personal cause took the opportunity to talk about their reasons for running as part of the Great Scottish Run ‘Power of Running’ series which has 4 main strands: mental health, community, fundraising, and physical fitness:

Vegan Runners: marking its 20th anniversary and running in animal costumes, they promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage vegans to take up running.

Andrew Tomlinson: hemiplegic cerebral palsy, he aims to make running road races more accessible for people with disabilities and is currently applying to be recognised as the fastest marathon runner with Hemiplegia with a marathon time of 3hr 45 in Boston and 3 hrs 58 in Chicago.

Claire Barker: running for cystic fibrosis trust, her husband who has this condition fortunately qualified for new drug Orkambi and it’s completely saved his life and she wants to raise awareness of this groundbreaking drug and the difference it’s made to his life.

Henrietta Kurusa: running for Venture Scotland; a charity who work hard to empower young adults who face challenges in their lives through outdoor based development programmes.

Outlier Run Club: they promote personal wellbeing and development through sport and are committed to supporting those less fortunate within the local community and Greater Glasgow are – they have 100 members running to raise money for charities Scottish Sports Futures; Kindness Homeless Street Team & Refuweegee.

Held over the weekend of Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October, this incredible weekend of running offers a 10k and half marathon. Cheered on by bagpipers marking every mile, the route takes runners on a tour in and around the fantastic city of Glasgow.

Starting on the iconic start line in George Square, the first challenge is tackling the infamous St Vincent Street hill… It’s a bit of climb but the views of thousands of fellow runners taking over the city centre is amazing!  And as they make their way around the course, they’ll pass by the symbolic Finnieston Crane and views over the River Clyde, before finishing on Glasgow Green.

There’s also a chance for the kids to shine on ‘Super Saturday’, with over 1000 kids taking part in the AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run.   This is then followed by the lively, and very competitive, battle of the Mascots in the Mascot race. ‘Super Saturday’ is the ultimate family day out, and a brilliant chance for youngsters to experience a big event atmosphere.
