Feyisa To Rival Farah For Great North Run Honours

Christmas Entries Open Soon Sitewide

OLYMPIC silver medallist Feyisa Lilesa will be a major contender for Sir Mo Farah’s Simplyhealth Great North Run crown after being announced to compete in the world-famous half marathon.

The 27-year-old Ethiopian took silver in the 2016 Olympic Games marathon in Rio de Janeiro, adding to his bronze medal won in the 2011 World Championships in Daegu.

More recently, Feyisa has been in fine form, outmuscling Callum Hawkins to win the New York City Half Marathon in March, and will take on the Chicago Marathon in five weeks’ time.

Feyisa’s season best of 60.04 in New York will more than be a match for a top-quality field featuring Farah (59.32 PB) Jake Robertson (60.01), Zane Robertson (59.47) and Dathan Ritzenhein (60.00).

The Simplyhealth Great North Run takes place on Sunday, 10 September, and is broadcast live on BBC One HD from 9.30am until 1.30pm, with highlights on BBC Two at 6pm.
