People wishing to take part in the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K are being told that ‘Someone Like You’ should sign up to be part of the present day music start wave, after the ‘90s music wave sold out in record time.
There are fewer than 200 places left in the start wave dedicated to the biggest tunes since 2000; featuring everything from Adele to Beyonce and dozens of others in between.
If music is a motivator, the Great Birmingham 10K is the perfect event, with participants given the chance to strut their stuff across the start line to the most popular tunes from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s or present day.
Each music start wave comes with its own party atmosphere warm-up routine featuring Birmingham’s very own Urban Fitness GB, before runners, walkers or joggers of all abilities hit the streets to continue the party spirit as musicians and bands line the route through Birmingham.
More than 7,000 people are expected to take part in this year’s Great Birmingham 10k on Sunday, April 30.
The start wave dedicated to the most popular tunes of the 1990s has now sold out, organisers have revealed.
The 10K is accessible to all levels of ability, whether you walk, jog or run the route. For those looking for a bigger challenge, it’s also a great training run in preparation for the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run half marathon or the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon to be held in the city in October.
This year’s 10K features the Commonwealth Games challenge, which is aiming to highlight Birmingham’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2026.
Runners from as many Commonwealth nations as possible are being sought to represent their countries and make the 10K a truly international event.
Applicants interested in representing their Commonwealth nation or territory should apply via a dedicated email address, commonwealth@greatrun.org and be able to confirm they are a passport holder or born in the relevant Commonwealth nation.
